Hunan Agricultural University is a first-class university ranking A in Hunan Province. There are 11 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 20 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree, 11 first-level disciplines authorized by professional master's degree, 10 centers for post-doctoral studies, 72 undergraduate majors and 2 specialized majors. The discipline covers 10 categories including agriculture, engineering, arts, science, economics, management, law, medicine, teaching and art. And it is the first batch of units authorized to grant master's degree in China. There are 1 national key discipline, 1 key discipline of Ministry of Agriculture, 3 top-ranking construction disciplines in Hunan Province, 7 First-class cultivation disciplines in Hunan Province and 15 “12^th Five-Year plan” key disciplines in Hunan Province (including 2 “12^th Five-Year plan” characteristic disciplines in Hunan Province). ESI disciplines in animal and plant sciences and agricultural sciences rank among the top 1% in the world. Crop science, horticulture, agricultural resources and environment, and animal husbandry were among the top ten disciplines in the third round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education. In the fourth round of subject evaluation, crop science and horticulture ranked the top 10-20% (B+), biology, agricultural resources and environment ranked the top 20-30% (B), ecology, plant protection, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine ranked the top 30-40% (B-), and agricultural and forestry economic management and public management ranked the top 40-50% (C+). 

     Our school adheres to the discipline construction goal of "distinctive features, prominent advantages, ecological construction and overall improvement". With agriculture as its feature, crop science, horticulture and animal husbandry as its pillar disciplines, and biology, ecology, agricultural resources and environment, plant protection, veterinary medicine, agricultural engineering, environmental science and engineering, food science and engineering, agricultural and forestry economic management, public management and other disciplines as its support disciplines, the discipline ecosystem of Hunan Agricultural University with distinct characteristics will be constructed and the hierarchical dynamics will be implemented. By focusing on deepening and extending related researches of  grain and oil crop such as rice-rape, horticultural crops such as tea, fruits and vegetables and livestock and poultry breeding industry chains, to maximize the benefits of discipline resources, to achieve key breakthroughs and overall improvement in discipline construction. All these will provide strong discipline support for our school to achieve the ranks of national high-level university construction in Hunan Province, rank the top 10 agricultural and forestry universities in terms of education in China, build a high-level teaching and research university with distinctive features and outstanding advantages and establish first-class Agricultural University in China. 

     By 2020, we will strive to move forward the overall level of disciplines ranking in the same universities and the overall ESI ranking would be in the top 3000. We will work hard to realize that Crop Science would enter the ranking of world-class discipline; in the subject evaluation ranking of Ministry of Education, more than four disciplines would be in the top 30% of the country, more than seven disciplines would be in the top 50% of the country and more than two disciplines will be in the top 1% of the world. In addition, more than one first-level doctoral degree program, more than two first-level master's degree programs, and more than two types of professional master's degree programs have been added. We will try our best to achieve breakthroughs in engineering doctoral degree and management doctoral degree.
